1. Matches will take place on Saturday afternoons.
2. Match times are set at 1pm for all, unless otherwise requested for home matches. Requested home match times cannot start later than 3pm or earlier than 12pm.
3. Whereas 12, 14, and 18 and under divisions will have 1 team match per week, 8 and under and 10 and under divisions will have multiple matches every other week where 3-4 teams meet and play at 1 location.
4. Coach/Captain’s are responsible for securing courts for all matches that take place at their home location. You need at least 2 courts to play a team match.
5. Home teams are responsible for providing balls for the matches at that location. Each match should require 2 cans of balls.
6. Each 12 and under, 14 and under, and 18 and under (coed) match is consists of one set (regular scoring) each of male singles, female singles, male doubles, female doubles, and two sets of mixed doubles. It is suggested that you put the two doubles matches on two courts first, and then singles, and then mixed doubles
7. Each 14 and under Boys, and 18 and under Boys match consists of three sets of boys singles and 2 sets of boys doubles (regular scoring).
8. Each 10 and under match consists of one set 4-game short set each of Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys Doubles, and Girls Doubles. These matches will use no-ad scoring with a tiebreaker at 3-3. Players are allowed to bounce-hit serves to get the ball in.
9. Each 8 and under match will use the Quickstart 8 and under scoring format with one individual match each of Boys Singles, Girls Singles, Boys Doubles, and Girls Doubles. Team Match wins will be determined by total sets won. Players are allowed to bounce-hit serves to get the ball in.
10. The team that wins the most games in 18, 14, 12 and 10 and under wins the match.
11. If the score is tied at the end, then the result is a tie.
12. Standings are based on games won (sets won for 8 and under). If there is a tie at the end of the season, the team with the best win-loss record, wins the league.
13. League winners in the Coed Divisions win the right to advance to the Philadelphia District Championships in July 2012. To play in these, each team must pay a team registration fee. To play in these, each team must pay a team registration fee and each player on the team must have played 3 TEAM matches.
14. Home teams are responsible for reporting scores through TennisLink, although away teams also have this ability to do so if they choose.
15. In the event of inclement weather, the home team coach/captain is responsible for making the decision on a match. Matches due to weather should be called no EARLIER than 3 hours beforehand. He or she can:
a. Book indoor courts to play the match at a nearby club. Note: Both teams must agree to play the match indoors, and if so, cover the cost of the courts. Either team can reschedule instead if they don’t want to deal with the cost.
b. Reschedule the match for another day and time (Sunday afternoons might work well for rescheduled matches). Matches must be made up by the end of June.
c. Note: If the home team already plays their matches on indoor courts, away teams are not responsible to share the cost of courts.
16. Coach/Captains should communicate with their opposing coach/captain at least 48 hours before the match to coordinate details such as directions, number of players, etc.
17. Matches should be played at their scheduled time unless weather interferes, no matter how many players a team has. If a team doesn’t have enough players to play the match, the coach/captain can request from their opposing coach/captain to reschedule the match for another time. However, both coach/captains must agree. If the opposing captain says they cannot do this, then the match goes on as scheduled with the remaining players.
a. Example: John is Team A’s Coach, and Joe is Team B’s coach. John only has 1 boy and 2 girls to play against Team B, who has 3 boys and 3 girls to play, so he requests to reschedule the match. Joe’s players are not available at any other time, and cannot due so. Therefore, Team A plays Team B with 1 boys and 2 girls, defaulting 2 courts (Boys Doubles, and 2nd Mixed Doubles).
18. In one team match, a player may play in no more than 2 individual matches.
19. For coed divisions, if a team only has 2 players of a certain gender and a full amount (3-5) of the other gender, then that team MUST default that gender’s singles match. If a team only has 2 boys and 2 girls, then that team defaults the 2nd Mixed Doubles instead.
20. Each coach/captain should bring a scorecard for the match.
21. Every player should be registered on TennisLink in order to play. If a player is not registered on TennisLink, the player’s coach has 1 week to register the player. If a week has passed and the player has still not registered, the opposing coach should put the score for the player as a defaulted loss.
22. Coaching can be done at every changeover by assigned coaches only. This includes tiebreaker changeovers and should take no longer than 60 seconds.
23. In the 10 and under and 8 and under divisions, one adult is expected to be on the court to assist with scoring and to make sure proper line calls are made.
24. Players with a 2011 Final USTA Section Ranking in the top 40 of the 12 and under Divisions and top 80 of the 14, 16, and 18 and under divisions may not play in the 12 and under, 14 and under or 18 and under (Coed) divisions. Since these rankings aren’t final yet, please consult the current standings list as a player may play but not be eligible for Districts. To see if a player is eligible or not, please consult your division coordinator. All coaches are responsible for looking into this for their players. If an ineligible player has played intermediate by accident, then all those individual matches will be defaulted.
25. Players can be disqualified in the middle of the season based on ranking OR Level of play. If a player is clearly an advanced player playing in the intermediate division (regardless of ranking), players may be disqualified and this will be discussed and decided by division coordinators and league commissioner.
26. Players can play on two different teams in different divisions and/or flights, but a maximum of 5 players may be shared between teams. For example if Club A has a 14 and under Intermediate and a 12 and under Intermediate, then no more than 5 players may be shared between these teams
27. Coaches are in charge of their team and their team number. Players can always be moved from team to team. However, if a player registers and then it turns out that the player is not able to play after the fact, refunds from the league and organization will NOT be granted.
28. All other guidelines will be put forth in the 2012 USTA Jr. Team Tennis Regulations. Each team should get a regulations book. If there are any other issues, do not hesitate to contact your Division Coordinator. He or she and the Area League Coordinator will be the final decision maker on all other issues.
